Whether you love it or hate it, the way you wear your stem on your menstrual cup is a personal choice and preference. Wondering if trimming the stem off of your cup could lead to a more comfortable menstrual cup experience? Read on…
How do I know if I should trim the stem?
If you feel any irritation or discomfort from the stem, consider removing it. The purpose of the stem is simply to help you reach the bottom of the cup but not for actual removal. Never pull on the stem to remove — it may hurt and make a mess. Proper cup removal happens only by squeezing the bottom of the cup itself to release the suction. If you can reach the bottom of the cup, then there is really no need for the stem.
Is there a proper way to remove the stem?
Simply use sharp scissors and make sure you don’t trim too close to the cup itself. (Otherwise you will end up with a funnel instead of a menstrual cup!) If you are not sure how much to trim, start by trimming only a little at a time until you reach a length that feels comfortable to you.
I don’t mind the stem. How come Lunette’s stem is so comfortable?
The stem of the Lunette menstrual cup is a flat and flexible tab that has ridges to facilitate easy removal. Our cups do not have hollow tabs which can collect bacteria and be difficult to clean. Yuck!
