How to clean your Lunette Period Cup?
Just bought your first Lunette Period Cup or thinking about it? One of the most common questions is: “How do I clean it? Is it safe to reuse?” Absolutely! With proper care, your Lunette Period cup can last for years making it a sustainable, safe, and body-friendly choice.
FIRST USE
Before using your cup for the first time:
- Wash your hands and clean the cup with warm water and a mild, fragrance-free liquid soap.
- We recommend our Cup Cleanser it’s free of harsh chemicals, safe for vaginal pH, and smells like refreshing eucalyptus.
- Then boil your cup for up to 5 minutes in a pot of water. Make sure there’s enough water so the cup floats and doesn’t touch the bottom of the pan.
Pro tip: Place the cup inside a metal whisk to prevent contact with the bottom during boiling.
Daily cleaning during your cycle
After each emptying:
- Rinse your cup with cold water first to prevent staining.
- Wash with a gentle, oil-free, fragrance-free soap with a pH between 3.5 and 5.5.
- Avoid dish soap, detergent, antibacterial soaps, or putting your cup in the dishwasher.
- If you’re on the go, use Lunette Cup Wipes or a splash of rubbing alcohol to sanitize. Just be sure to rinse thoroughly before reinserting.
Between cycles
To keep your cup fresh:
- Boil for up to 5 minutes before and after each cycle.
- Let it air dry completely before storing it in its breathable pouch (never in an airtight container).
How to remove odor?
If your cup develops a smell, don’t worry it doesn’t mean it’s dirty. Here’s how to freshen it up:
- Soak in rubbing alcohol for up to 1 hour
- Or use a 50:50 mix of water and white vinegar
- Always rinse thoroughly and boil for 5 minutes afterward to remove any residue
How to remove stains?
- Always rinse with cold water first
- To treat stains:
- Leave your cup in direct sunlight for a few hours
- Soak in lemon juice or vinegar, then boil for 5 minutes
Cleaning the air holes
- Fill the cup with water, cover the top with your palm, flip it, and squeeze - this flushes the holes.
- You can also use a soft toothbrus or a blunt toothpick soaked in alcohol.
- Never use sharp objects like needles they can damage the silicone.
The golden rule
Always wash your hands before handling your cup. Keep your nails clean. Boil your cup for up to 5 minutes before and after every cycle.

Nice Blog
Hi Sara! If you can’t boil your Cup you can use our handy Lunette Cupwipes. They contain only water and alcohol (ethanol), and the wipes are compostable. 😊

I cant boil my cup before every period. Is it possible to santize lunette cup with alcohol instead of boiling before each cycle?
Hi Kate! Yes, just give your Cup a good wash to make sure there is no Feelbetter Cup Cleanser residue and you’re good to go!

What if you left your cup in the Lunette cleaning solution in water over night because you forgot about it? Is it still okay to use
Hi Kat! We do not recommend sanitizing cups for use with Lunette Cup.
-Team Lunette
There is this sanitizing product out there you put the cup in there for a few minutes is that a good substitute for boiling
Hi Anna,
Thanks for your question! If you don’t have access to our handy Cupwipes you can wipe the cup down with a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol. Do not use alcohol meant for consumption.
Wishing you all the best!

Hi!
I read that you can wipe your cup with alcohol in order to sanitize it. Can you do it with the Lunette Cup? And if you can, does the alcohol type matters?
Thanks!
Hi Allie!
We recommend to sanitize the cup always before and after the periods. You can boil the cup for 20 minutes, use Lunette Cupwipes or some other disinfection product that contains pure alcohol but no fragrances or oils. When you empty the cup, rinse it with cold water (this prevents discoloring) and wash with Lunette Feelbetter Menstrual Cup Cleanser.
Best regards,
Team Lunette
If for I can’t boil it for whatever reason, what do you recommend? I want to try a cup, but unable to boil.
Hi!
We advise boiling your cup for 20 minutes between each menstrual cycle in a pot with boiling water to keep it fresh and clean.
Best

Is it safe to microwave lunette cups?
Could it be sterilized in the microwave in a bowl of water?
Great question, Natalie!
If you don’t have access to our Lunette Feelbetter Cup Cleanser or Cupwipes, we recommend using a mild, fragrance-free, oil-free soap to wash your menstrual cup.
